Our explorations in Cambodia are mostly centered on the the ancient city of Angkor, the capital of the Khmer Empire (802-1431 AC) situated near the town of Siem Reap in the northwestern corner of the country. The Angkor city is the site of the magnificent Angkor Wat temple, perhaps the largest single religious monument in the world. There are over one thousand Hindu / Buddhist temples in the Angkor area with Angkor Wat, the Ta Prohm and the walled city-palace of Angkor Thom (with the outstanding temples of Bayon, Baphuon and Phimeanakas), protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has been calculated using modern imaging techniques that about one million people once inhabited the Angkor city.

You can fly into Siem Reap or arrive at Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Phnom Penh, on the banks of the Mekong river, is worth a visit of one or two days. For Angkor you should count three days if not four. You will also may experience the daly life of floating villages on the Tonlé Sap near Siem Reap. Excellent accommodations and fabulous food will make this a wonderful journey.
